We just got note of this new band via our inbox, and a few listens convinced me that they’re definitely worth sharing. They hail from Dreamville Records, the same label that released J. Cole’s The Warm Up mixtape, but this is far from your average band. Just like Gorillaz, SYOR is a virtual band, supposedly living in the year 3020. Check out their own description below.

“We are S.Y.O.R Our members are Maza, Kid.Digit-ø, Ceddy and 07017. We have come together to free the world from the evil Cozack Corporation. For the last 700 years, every single Global President has been under the control of Kerry A. Cozack through an advanced version of the civilian chips you have lodged in your forearms. Aside from being watched constantly, you are also being robbed of your freedom to express yourselves as individuals. It is said that the most dangerous man in these times is an inspired one. Upon first reading the email, I thought the idea was pretty cheesy, and I expected nothing more than another lame attempt at imitating Gorillaz. However, the band sent links to a few songs they did over Ratatat beats, so I decided to check them out. I was instantly blown away. They go in over Ratatat’s “Shwisha” and “Gettysburg” and even do hip-hop justice to their “Cherry.” The songs are all from an upcoming mixtape, and I can’t wait for it.
