There are very few things I hate more than the Los Angeles Lakers: OJ Da Juiceman, Waka Flocka Flame, Birdman, and overly-friendly priests. Regardless, I felt the need to post this song by Ron Artest, now a back to back world champion, because it’s pretty good. I remember a few years back when he asked for a clause in his contract that would allow him to take some time off during the regular season to work on his music. Everybody laughed at him and I assumed he was terrible at it. Since then I’ve only heard positive feedback. People say he’s a legit producer, making all his own beats and the production on this track is pretty impressive. This is coming from the thug that used to drink liquor instead of water at half-time and that missed most of the season in ‘05? because of the brawl at the Palace of Auburn Hills when he went ballistic and started punching fans. Check it out and give it a listen. It’s not phenomenal, but it’s surely not horrendous.
Okay so we’re not really offering a diet for 50 cents, but 50 recently dropped nearly 60 pounds and had all of his tattoos removed for an upcoming movie, Things Fall Apart, in which he has to play a football player that gets diagnosed with leukemia. Looks like he’ll play the part just fine. He went from 214 lbs. to 160 lbs. using a liquid diet and 3 hours of walking on the treadmill everyday. Talk about a transformation. He told the media,“I was starving” but is now back on tour and has changed his diet and workout routines back to normal. “I’ve been eating. I’ll be back in shape in no time!” I hope this movie is worth all the effort. I mean, he’s not even a very good actor. He couldn’t even play himself very well in his own autobiographical movie, Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Regardless, we applaud the discipline and dedication it took to achieve this feat. Do you think it’s harder to get as jacked as he was or to lose all that muscle? I’ll try neither. I’m perfectly content with sitting in front of my computer and blogging about all this. That beats working out in the gym for hours upon hours everyday or the opposite, sitting in front of the toilet/attempting to avoid the refrigerator in order to achieve that….physique.
As I was listening to this, I was like…Damn, I wish his new stuff was more like this. This is his old flow that I’ve been missing lately. Sure enough, right then, he drops this line: “People say that old Drake, we started to miss it. But they need to be a more little specific. Is this what y’all want?” Yes Drake, it is. He absolutely murders this freestyle. Just like the title says, this is actually a freestyle from 9am in Dallas. Drake was there this morning, and he hopped on this Boi-1da beat. Boi-1da and him have hooked up multiple times in the past, most recently on Forever with Lil Wayne and Eminem. Anyways, Drake kills it, so be sure to check it out.

I gotta say, I was pretty disappointed by Kush & OJ when it came out. Overall, though, it’s grown on me, and this is one of the better songs from the mixtape.

He did it. The teeny bopper that took over the internet with his rendition of Paparazzi by Gaga that we posted a few days ago has officially inked a record deal with Interscope Records. I wonder if he knows what German means. Here’s an interview with Ellen, his conversation with Lady Gaga herself, and a performance of the cover.
Wow. This guy used to be a middle school English teacher? Teacher turned producer/rapper J-Live drops a track titled The Way That I Rhyme and his rhymes are pretty impressive. Worth a download, I’d say.
August 24th. Mark your calendars. This is the day that music as we know it will change forever. Chiddy Bang is releasing their currently untitled debut album and it’s sure to be their best work yet. Xaphoon just informed us and I’m stoked. The dynamic duo of producer Xaphoon Jones and emcee Proto describe themselves as a “hipster’s wet dream” or “kings of the basement party”. Take it as you will, but their music is game-changing. Their debut mixtape, The Swelly Express was dope and got them signed to EMI Records, and Air Swell, which dropped this week, didn’t disappoint. You can tell, though, that they’re focusing all their effort on their debut album. I honestly cannot wait for this. I’m about to hit them up to beg for a preview. Listen to some Chiddy below.
Elitaste just announced Mike Posner’s tour dates for the next few months. I’ve seen Posner live, and he puts on a great show, so it’s definitely worth going to see him at one of these smaller venues before he hops on the Warped Tour this summer. Hit the jump for the tour dates as well as KarmaloopTV’s interview with Mike.

Lupe announced via Twitter yesterday that a new group, called the “All City Chess Club,” was in the studio. Later, he put out the above tweet saying who was in the group. We’re not exactly sure what they’re working on together, but it’s no doubt going to be an amazing project. I can’t imagine how cool it would be if all of those guys did an album, mixtape, or even just a song together.
