Mac’s back at it again, this time after Pitchfork smacked Blue Slide Park with a 1.0 rating. They gave Camp a 1.6, though, so I’ve come to grips that Pitchfork is just an aggregator of all things buzzing right now. That sounds like every blog, including ours, but Pitchfork just has a snobby way of doing it. Damn. The people love it. Good to see Mac finally got a Supreme sticker that faces the right way. Enjoy.

In the five minutes I have before I need to sprint to my Rhetoric and Critical Inquiry class, I wanted to post the official music video for Mike Posner‘s “Looks Like Sex” which dropped literally minutes ago – it’s at only 301 views right now. It goes without saying that I haven’t had sufficient time to watch the video in its entirety, but by the looks of it, it reflects the song pretty appropriately. Relatively speaking, of course. It’s as appropriate as a music video for a song that centers around the lyric, “She looks like sex sex, sex sex,” can be. I don’t know about you, but Mike Posner gives me the chills. Maybe that’s because I’m a girl. Whatever. Check out the video below and snag the mp3 if you haven’t already.

Lame. This beef is lame. Common originally dissed Drake in “Sweet” off The Dreamer, The Believer, dropped in December, sort of calling him soft but mostly just pounding his own chest and proclaiming himself a hip-hop god. Then Drake dropped this verse on Rick Ross‘s Rich Forever mixtape, responding to the sucker-punch with lines like “It bothers me when the gods begin to act like the broads”, “I just ask that when you see me, you speak up, that’s all”, and “Back when if a ni**a reached it was for a weapon. Nowadays ni**as reach just to sell their records”. The last line is my personal favorite because that’s all a listener can deduce from this beef. Common’s been around for a minute now but The Dreamer, The Believer was a comeback of sorts. He had the ear of the public at a time when Drake is running the game, but Common sees a perfect opportunity to call him out for being soft. Nobody’s disputing that. Drake’s a lover, not a fighter, and he didn’t want any trouble with Common. He didn’t want beef with Pusha T either, but he got it. Cheap beefs like these are tacky and just prove emcees feel threatened by Drake. Common seems to be reaching to sell records. I can guarantee neither of these guys will be reaching for a weapon, though. Hoe ass ni**as. Just look at that artwork. Ridiculous.

He is also working together with Left Brain of OddFuture and combined their collaborations is entitled MellowHype. I’ve been familiar with Birdy for quite some time now, but I still can’t believe my ears whenever I listen to her music. It’s artists like her who make me feel bad about not being so musically inclined myself, but then again that’s why we appreciate true talent and good music – because not everyone has it. Here’s her latest release, a cover of The Postal Service‘s “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight.” It’s perfect for a detox Sunday dedicated to winding down, catching up on school work, and preparing for the upcoming week.

Wale and Macklemore together on the same track? Yes, please! Not to mention hot up-and-comers Tony Williams & Emilio Rojas. Hot damn. This fun party track comes off Tony Williams’ upcoming project Some of My Best Rappers Are Friends, which has plenty of big name features. Of Montreal is probably one of the most outlandish groups out there right now (see above), at least that I follow. Which is why I am not surprised by this somewhat-outlandish track that the group decided to drop in preparation for their ext big release Paralytic Stalks (which apparently they’re going to offer in cassete form as well). The Georgia based psychedelic pop group turns this track into a track that we’re used to hearing on “Queen Greatest Hits” albums. But hey, it’s good. Check it out as well as the album cover below.

Of Montreal – “Dour Percentage”

The best grunter in the hip hop game aka MMG boss Rick Ross has come out with a new mixtape, titled Rich Forever. While I have not heard much hype about it, it is nevertheless post-worthy. Apparently this is a tape made in preparation of ROzay’s next album God Forgives, I Don’t. With features from MMG partners Meek Mill, Pill, and Wale as well as other such as John Legend and Nas, this mixtape has some promise to it. Hopefully. Check it below. Happy Friday!

I have to admit, I’m not familiar with the Star Wars series. I’ve seen parts of a couple of the films but not enough to make any witty references. For that shortcoming of mine, I sincerely apologize. However, I do know more than my fair share about electronic music, and I must say that this remix of the Star Wars theme song is spectacular. Bryce Bresnan and Joe Sussingham, aka Coyote Kisses, have outdone themselves again with their transformation of John Williams‘ “Binary Suns” into a blissful glitch-step track. The Florida based duo is well on their way to earning a position as one of the top electronic artists/groups on the current electronic music scene. Watch them blow up.

Mansions on the Moon are starting 2012 off and running by hyping up the release of their upcoming Lightyears EP. “Rest Of Your Days” is the third track that we’ve received gift-wrapped from them (“Leaves Fall” has been my favorite for a while now) , and every single on has been golden. In fact, with production from Pharrell Williams, this EP has “gold” written all over it. “Rest Of Your Days”is a short but oh so sweet track with almost a Simon & Garfunkel feel to it. It’s just what I needed right now, and hopefully the same holds true for you.

IAWT is proud to be the absolute first to present you all with the release of “Now We’re Through,” the latest track off of Danny Asroff and Mdot Burks‘ upcoming collab album titled High Off Life and Other Things. I’m so glad Danny sent this our way because these guys really have a talent for tapping into our emotions, and that’s a major part of music for me. What is music if it’s not honest, or if listeners can’t relate to it? “Now We’re Through” explores the pains of a relationship in which one person doesn’t support the other’s passions and dreams. Danny put it best:

“If you are in a relationship with a person that supports what you do, they are the one. If they can’t, cut them loose, do your thing and chase your dream. Don’t let anyone hold you back.”

Those are probably some of the greatest words of relationship wisdom I’ve ever heard. Danny and Mdot remind us that sometimes, you’ve just gotta do what you’ve gotta do. Be on the lookout for High Off Life and Other Things which is anticipated to drop within the next three months.

Eliminate never fails to impress me. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I’m not a huge fan of dubstep. However, I am always open to giving the genre a chance. That being said, Eliminate is one of those dubstep producers whose music I always enjoy. This electro-dub remix of one of my favorite The Dean’s List tracks, “Dear Professor,” is magnificent and very dance-able. Eliminate makes a perfect place for hip hop and pop elements in dubstep music – the driving synths blend perfectly with the hip hop beats, the dubstep bass drops, and the high-pitched vocals. This will definitely be on repeat while I’m exerting the last tidbits of my energy on the elliptical later this afternoon. The Dean’s List – “Dear Professor (Eliminate Remix)”

I have to admit, I was not a fan of “The Motto”, actually it was one of my least favorite Drake songs in a while. I know, I know, most of you think it “goes so hard”, but I just didn’t see it. Nevertheless, this remix could not go un-posted. Wiz Khalifa recruits the help of the newest Taylor Gang member, Juicy J and SF Bay-area artist Berner to hop on Drizzy and Wizzle‘s, “The Motto”. The title of this remix seems to have been the theme of my winter break, so I can roll with this I guess.

As a music aficionado, I like to be knowledgable in all types of music, both past and present. There’s nothing like jamming out to some Earth, Wind, & Fire (one of my all-time favorite groups) when I’m feeling extra sassy. So you can see why my interest was peaked when I caught wind of this remix. With a faster-paced feel and some added drums and synths, Vancouver-based Teen Daze has reworked EWF’s 1981 smash hit “Let’s Groove” into a contemporary masterpiece. Don’t believe me? While in the midst of working on their sophomore album, the phenomenal 2AM Club has decided to join up with IAWT-favorite Chiddy Bang for the remix of “Every Evening”. This was one of my favorite tracks of 2011, with a good spirit and even better vocals. Now with the addition of Chidera droppin a verse is like the hot sauce on the popcorn. Breakfast is still set for a late February release, for now. Let this hold you over until then I guess.

San Fran’s Jhameel dropped his self-directed, -produced, -edited, and -choreographed music video for his pop dance track “Shut Up” off his Dance EP (which you can download here for free). The truly self-made artist literally does everything himself, including playing every instrument used on every track. For the bursting-with-energy “Shut Up” and its accompanying vid, Jhameel channeled his inner Michael Jackson. His transition from falsetto to scream is spectacular. Stay on the lookout for him in this new year – by the looks and sounds of things, Jhameel will undoubtedly present us with more refreshingly unique work.

Vizzy is one of the most real emcees out there right now. Can anyone honestly disagree? He raps about real things that we all can actually associate with, and this dude stays true to himself. He knows that he is weird and doesn’t give a F*#k. Well here is the latest and XV is already rapping about the end of the world…. 2012 let’s gooooooooooo.

Tyga has to be one of my favorite rappers for sure. Just a dirtyyyyy flow, and he is mad original. He is basically super dope. He recruits Weezy F for this banger, though Wayne’s verse is sort of lacking. Regardless, Tyga’s dope verses make up for it.
