Lupe is by far one of the most intelligent rappers out there, and his lyrics in this song prove that. If you listen close you can see how much thought he puts into his rhymes.

We introduced you to Japanese Cartoon a while ago, but in case you forgot, it’s Lupe Fiasco’s side project punk band where he dons a fake British accent and serves as lead singer. This music definitely isn’t for everyone, but if you’re into punk rock, don’t hesitate to check it out.

Yet another leak from B.o.B.’s upcoming album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray. All of them so far have been fire, and this is no exception. Lupe hops on the track with Bobby Ray with a nice verse. The hook is a little weak though. The track may have some changes once the album officially drops on April 27th, but it’s worth downloading now anyways.

Lupe announced via Twitter yesterday that a new group, called the “All City Chess Club,” was in the studio. Later, he put out the above tweet saying who was in the group. We’re not exactly sure what they’re working on together, but it’s no doubt going to be an amazing project. I can’t imagine how cool it would be if all of those guys did an album, mixtape, or even just a song together.

I absolutely love this song. Lupe wrote it in the immediate aftermath of the earthquakes in Haiti, so it’s full of genuine lyrics, and of course Lupe’s signature flow. Check out the music video for the song below and download it if you haven’t already.

Three new Lupe songs were just dropped, but Lupe confirmed 0n his Twitter account that only one of them, “What U Want,” will be on Lasers. He also insists that the track is still unfinished and that the leaked version is incomplete. “Proceed” is just a floating track and apparently “Lean” is a few years old. Preview and download them all below.

We know what you’re thinking…Lupe has a rock band?! Well, the answer is yes. That’s right, Lupe Fiasco, one of the best rappers alive and a personal favorite of ours here at The MuSiK Box, is the frontman and lead vocalist for Japanese Cartoon, a “British” indie rock band.
It’s hard to describe what exactly this project is, but in short it consists of Lupe donning a fake British accent and singing over some alternative/punk rock music. Word of this project first got out early last year, and most people didn’t really know what to think. The band claimed early on that Lupe was just a producer and financier, listing their lead singer as a man by the name of Percival Fats. Both Lupe and the band (on their Myspace blog) denied that Lupe was the lead vocalist. That was a few months ago. Now, you can go to the band’s Myspace and see Lupe (as Wasalu Jaco, his real name) listed as their front man along with a picture of him as the band’s profile image. In addition, the band is signed to Lupe’s 1st and 15th imprint label under Atlantic. It’ll definitely be interesting to see where this project goes.
Now, for the music. I have to start off by saying that this music definitely isn’t catered towards Lupe’s hip-hop fan base. I was actually pretty turned off when I first heard it. That being said, I’ve never really been into punk rock music, and I really only began listening to this band because I heard Lupe’s name associated with it. I have to admit, though, their songs have been growing on me now that I’ve heard them each a few times. I definitely don’t prefer this to Lupe’s rapping, but it could be a cool little side project for him. Check out the band on Myspace (and preview one of their songs below) and let us know what you think.

This track got leaked a few weeks ago, but this is the “official” release. The beat is actually a little bit different from the leaked one, though it’s barley noticeable. Make sure to hit up iTunes on January 26 when the song is available. I know you can download it for free, but guys like Lupe deserve the monetary support for all the good music they give us. Preview and download the song, produced by The Neptunes, below.
