We introduced you to Japanese Cartoon a while ago, but in case you forgot, it’s Lupe Fiasco’s side project punk band where he dons a fake British accent and serves as lead singer. This music definitely isn’t for everyone, but if you’re into punk rock, don’t hesitate to check it out.
New Chip compilation by DJ Steph Floss. It’s got some new stuff and some old stuff, but it should hold you over until Gift Raps, Chip’s next project, is released.
This is epic. So so so good. I’m a huge Coldplay fan and I happen to also love Drake (who doesn’t?) and along comes Chi Duly to put craft this gem. I’m super impressed that he was able to so flawlessly mash two unique artists to create this. Enough talking though, go listen to it and download it!
Following in the tradition of Danger Mouse’s iconic mashup The Grey Album, October’s Very Cold is a remix album produced by Chi Duly (Nappy Roots, The Pack, Termanology). It features Drake, aka October’s Very Own, over Coldplay samples (as well as Coldplay vocals over Drake instrumental samples on intro and outro). The first track released from this project a couple weeks ago has more than 10k downloads across the internet, and was posted on the biggest record pool in the world, DJ City. The Drake x Coldplay combination under the control of Chi Duly yields a smooth and seamless sound. This shit is great.
We’ve really been feeling Dumbfoundead lately and we’re hoping to get you hooked as well. I knew absolutely nothing about him before writing this article, except that he’s an Asian dude that’s crazy-good a rhyming. Dumbfoundead was never that timid asian kid who did all your homework in math class. In fact, if you were to cheat off him, you would be fucking yourself over. He was the class clown and the kid who asked for your lunch tickets so he can get a second lunch. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he came to reside in Koreatown, Los Angeles, at the age of 3 and discovered Project Blowed at the age of 16.
Being exposed to hip-hop at an early age, he randomly walked into a community center in Macarthur Park when he was 14 years old, running into Los Angeles OG’s such as Mark Luv (Zulu Nation), Poppin’ Chuck, Cre8 (RTN), and EZ Rock (Rocksteady). This is where he started freestyling and learning the history of hip-hop. The year after, a friend from high school took him to a place called Project Blowed in South Central where he found out what DOPE really was. that night he heard some of the most amazing freestylers, rappers like Otherwize, Riddlore, Nocando, P.E.A.C.E., and many more. After ripping countless cyphers and battles he earned the respect of the OG’s and became one of the “Blowdians” himself.
Here it is! After months of work, Urbindex has finally finished his first masterpiece, Midnight Snack, his debut mixtape. Urbindex spits over some definitely unconventional beats on this mixtape, and we love it. It almost sounds like some old school hip-hop, but his new school flow and his witty lyrics bring a different flavor. His lyrics are packed with witty puns and wordplay, so listen closely. Dailybeatz.com put together this summer mixtape by asking people from a bunch of different blogs to each pick a summer song and then compiled them into a big free download. I haven’t listened to everything on it, but there are definitely some must-haves (like Free Energy’s “Bang Pop” and Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”).
DJ E-V just released this mixtape tonight. It’s hosted by Mike Posner, and it’s got a bunch of remixed material as well as some original stuff. There’s two versions available for download, the one with individual tracks, and the 1-track “party mix.” Get either below.
I haven’t even listened to this yet, but I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s gonna be dope. His first three songs off the mixtape, Tell Me, Get In Your Zone, and Fork In the Road were all sick. New Donnis! Fashionably Late, his second “real” mixtape has finally arrived. I loved his first mixtape, so hopefully this one is as good. I haven’t heard it all yet, but “For the Kill,” sampling La Roux, is pretty fresh.
